Salt Lake City, UT USAJob DescriptionOperation AmeriCorps is a national program where community members have the opportunity to serve in local nonprofits for one year helping eliminate poverty.
In return for service, members receive a living allowance and an education award upon completion of service.
The Employment Readiness AmeriCorps position will focus efforts to helping newly arrived refugees to help prepare them for employment, find and maintain gainful employment and pay their basic expenses so that they can stay in their home.
The main focus of the position will be to teach weekly job readiness classes covering principles of job searching, and digital and financial literacy.
The position will also aid newly arrived refugees one-on-one in their job search activities.
This is a contract and commitment for the course of 6 months, and 900 hours of service.
Upon successful completion of the contract, minimum hours and satisfactory fulfillment of your 6-month contract, you would be eligible for an Education award of $3,195.
You may use to either further your education or pay on a previously accrued qualifying Federal student loan(s).

Responsibilities:
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Prepare and teach job readiness, and digital and financial literacy topics and classes to newly arrived refugees in group trainings and one-on-one sessions.
Work one-on-one with assigned refugee clients to assist them in their job search, including contacting employers, filling out applications, assisting with interviews, and interview follow-up.
Liaise with employment team volunteers and interns to coordinate service provision to refugee clients.
Track class attendance, and case note job search efforts and results in online databases.
Participate as a full member of the economic empowerment team, committed to facilitating bundled services.

Benefits:
Living Allowance, $721 every 2 weeks.
At the end of year of service, the VISTA can choose an Education Award ($5,730) or End of Service Cash Stipend ($1,500).

US Citizen or permanent resident.
High School Diploma or GED, or working towards that goal.
Previous experience with refugees or marginalized populations preferred.
Proficiency in French, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Farsi, or Arabic preferred.
Proficient in MS Excel and Word; database experience a plus.
Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor.
Ability to drive a vehicle, valid and current driver's license.
Must have proof of insurance and good driving record.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
