LEAD MEDICAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT

The Lead Radiology Service MSA monitors and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow. Assignments include, but are not limited to:
Assuring coverage of the Radiology Service phone banks; overseeing scheduling of radiology patients; conduction on going reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timeliness of patient communications; and assuring administrative process flow in accordance with VA Guidelines. Assigning workload to individual Radiology Service MSAs, providing guidance to other MSAs to include changes in the policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; orientating and providing on-the-job training for new and current MSAs in the Radiology Service; Organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas, acting as liaison between the MSAs and staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts, and completing other duties and special projects as assisting by the Radiology Service Manager and Supervisor. Maintaining vacation schedules to ensure adequate coverage in the Radiology Service is met. The Lead MSA is the front-line contact for patients and staff, the incumbent sets the tone of perceptions concerning quality of Radiology Service at the VA. A high degree of tact and diplomacy is required when dealing with Veterans who have multiple health problems. The incumbent provides supportive assistance to the Veterans to assure prompt attention to their scheduling of radiology care; and performs at a competent level. The Lead MSA ensures the referral of non-VA radiology appointments when services are not available or patient meets non-VA criteria. Work Schedule:

Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g.) Experience and Education:
(1) Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; or (2) Education. One year above high school; or (3) Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.Certification. None required. English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. Grade Determinations:
In addition to the basic requirements for employment listed above, the following education and/or experience criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates; For the Lead Medical Support Assistant, GS-07 you must possess; Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-06. Preferred Experience 2 to 3 years of medical/clinical administrative experience preferred. Experience using FBCS, Vista, and Excel Assignment. The GS-0679-07 Lead MSA is responsible for daily workload assessments, assigning work, and assuring proper staffing coverage; evaluating training records; and determining training needs of MSAs to provide support across interdisciplinary settings. The Lead assists the unit with complex and non-standard procedures, including clinical flow processes related to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to:
ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members, to include changes in policies and procedures; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; and acting as a liaison among Advanced MSA staff, patients, and other interdisciplinary staff to resolve day-to-day conflicts. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below:
1. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. 2. Skill in communicating with individuals in order to obtain the desired effect, ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations. 3. Ability to provide staff development and training. 4. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage priorities, and coordinate work in order to complete duties in an accurate and timely manner. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrating an understanding of the impact of incomplete work. 5. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources.6. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. References:

The work is mostly sedentary and requires incumbent to utilize a personal computer resulting in a large amount of keyboarding/data entry. Faxing clinical documentation to the outside providers/vendors at their request during the scheduling/approving process for Fee Basis care. Additionally, lifting and carrying items such as medical records, paperwork, folders and will be required to do tasks that require some fine manipulation skills/abilities. May be required to work many hours at a computer terminal.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
